Does Plastic Surgery Kill People In Florida?

When you think of plastic surgery you probably think about people getting procedures done to improve their appearance. Maybe some augmentations, nose jobs, facial lifts, etc. In reality, plastic surgery comes in many forms and is not simply there just to improve a person’s look. Yes, there are many plastic surgeries that are elective, but there are many others that are deemed medically necessary to restore a person’s functionality.

Plastic surgery has gotten a bad reputation in many places. That is certainly the case in many places around Florida. Today, we want to talk about some of the dangers of plastic surgery. Specifically, we want to focus on an assembly line style clinic.

At Vladimir Tsirkin & Associates, we want to protect you. If you have been the victim of any medical mistake that was caused by a healthcare professional’s negligence, let us help you get the compensation you deserve. When you need a Fort Lauderdale medical malpractice attorney, call us today.

This Clinic Killed People

A USA Today story recently highlighted a scary situation at a Florida plastic surgery facility, one that they say doctors operated on as many as eight patients a day. The facility, and one nearby, are overseen by one person – Doctor Ismael Labrador. These two places have been responsible for 1 of every five plastic surgery deaths in the state.

They have lost eight people over the last few years. While we all know that all surgeries carry risks, investigators claim that these patients died due to avoidable causes.

  • Four women died after doctors injected body fat deep into their muscles and tore veins. The fat entered their heart and lungs, killing them quickly.
  • In another case, a 51-year-old woman underwent emergency surgery after the plastic surgeon perforated her small intestine three times during a cosmetic surgery.
  • Another woman’s liver was lacerated after a cosmetic surgery, causing her to bleed internally for days.

The doctor in charge of these clinics once saw his license suspended for allowing unlicensed workers to perform cosmetic procedures at his facilities. Investigations have revealed that Dr. Labrador hires doctors who are not board-certified in plastic surgery. They are paid on commission – the more procedures they do, the more they make.

To top it all off, the law firm that represents Dr. Labrador’s clinics is owned by his wife.
