Florida Inspectors Find Salmonella In Food

We learned last week that Whole Foods Market was issuing a large recall of many of its prepared foods that contain baby spinach. They say that they could be contaminated with Salmonella. The recall came about through their supplier, Satur Farms out of New York. They issued their own recall after a routine sampling by the Florida Department of Agriculture discovered the Salmonella.

Product affected include “salads, pizzas, sandwiches, and wraps” and we sold in states throughout the country, including Florida. Thankfully, there have been no reports of anyone becoming ill due to the contamination.

At Vladimir Tsirkin & Associates, we know just how dangerous faulty or contaminated products can be. Many people never think about what would happen if they are harmed or become injured due to something they have used or consumed. When you need a Fort Lauderdale product liability attorney, you can count on us to get the compensation you deserve.

The Problems

We are lucky to have even heard about this recall. While the partial government shutdown was going on, the agencies responsible for notifying the public about such instances were also shutdown. The government has a crucial role to play when it comes to monitoring and recalling faulty products. In the case above, it was the state government of Florida that helped discover the contamination. The company and farm decided to issue a voluntary recall, but the federal government can force a recall if a company does not do so.

We need to be protected from faulty products. Despite strict consumer standards in place for most of the items we use and consume, there are still times when faulty items hit our shelves. Sometimes, this is due to a poor design that leads to the product being harmful to the consumer. Other times, a manufacturing error is to blame because it alters an otherwise safe product from its original design.

There are also times when a product is labeled incorrectly. This can mean that a medication does not have the correct dosage listed or the side effects are not listed. Other times, food products may not list their ingredients and possible allergens.

Injuries from faulty products take many forms. Sometimes, it may be something that is immediately visible like:

  • Broken bones
  • Lacerations
  • Allergic reactions
  • Serious illness

Other times, the problems may not manifest for many years. This is the case with many items that have cancer-causing carcinogens.
