Rescue teams have been busy when it comes to construction accidents lately. Last week, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue was busy helping a 24-year-old man who fell about 10 feet from some scaffolding. If that sounds routine, in this case, it was not.
“Access to the patient was limited based upon the building being under construction,” said Battalion Chief Stephan Gollan. For this rescue, there were no elevators and not even the stairs we complete.
They say this is the second time in two days the city’s Technical Rescue Team has been deployed, having rescued a 35-year-old the day before at a construction site downtown. Gollan attributes the increase in rescues to all of the new construction going on downtown.
